Meet Your Teachers

Dr. Shala

There is a rumor that Dr. Shala is not merely a shapeshifter, but can shift individual body parts at will. The rumor is true. At first glance, she seems like the cool teacher—red hair shaved close, a dancing axolotl earring.

First impressions can be very wrong.

Professor Simon

If you ask three different people what Professor Simon looks like, you will probably get three different answers. After all, he is the Camouflage and Concealment instructor.

When you do notice him, you'll see: twitchy, paranoid, possibly unstable. But no fear, he is oddly compassionate… for a lunatic.

Princess Arazan

No, she’s not one of the broken ones, although her griffin-human mash-up has started a few rumors.

What you want to remember about Princess Arazan is that she is intense about her subject: Mythology of Hidden Creatures—and improving her score at the Griffin Flight Challenge.

Oh, and she has a sense of humor that can catch you off guard. But maybe don’t let your guard down too much. Talons and teeth, you know.

Dr. Jude

When he meets your parents, he’ll be the perfect image of a quiet, calmly brilliant professor, with thick dark-rimmed glasses and a soft voice. But you know better.

Beneath that innocent exterior, Dr. Jude is… unsettling.

You know that predatory walk and the eyes that flash yellow when he’s displeased. You and your classmates have seen his First Shift, and it is terrifying.

First Day Quiz

What sort of teacher gives a quiz on the First Day?

Princess Arazan, of course.

Welcome to Mythology of Hidden Creatures

Ayla looked down at the quiz.

Three columns.

Pictures of creatures she barely recognized, to be matched with names she’d never heard of.

And then she had to describe their personalities?

The images were unfamiliar, although she was pretty sure she'd seen that one in a nightmare.

She scanned the page looking for an easy win: unicorn!

Unfortunately, she didn't know anything about their personality traits. She thought of Dawson and wrote: sweet, laid-back, funny.

She didn't know if your first shift had anything to do with your personality, but it was all she had to work with.

For a fleeting moment she wondered what being a cat necromancer said about her personality.

Focus Ayla!

mythomorph academy first shift

There was a two-headed dog with a spider body. A cat that was also... a cactus?

She scanned the other names hoping for hints. Sparklepest. The glitterfied fly?

Argh! She came here to learn, not to be tested on stuff she didn't know. Giving up, she scribbled some obvious personality traits like grumpy for the Viking guy and sweet for the cat. Enough already.

She made her best guesses and slumped back in her seat
